Kelu vs DocsAlot
Last reviewed:
DocsAlot is a hosted documentation platform that publishes your docs together with AI-readable outputs (llms.txt, skill.md), a hosted MCP server and an AI help-center widget. Kelu is an AI knowledge assistant that layers onto whatever docs platform you already use: Mintlify, Docusaurus, GitBook, ReadMe, VitePress or a custom site. Different jobs; the overlap is the AI layer.
Choose DocsAlot if you want a new hosted docs site with llms.txt, skill.md and a hosted MCP endpoint built in, and you are ready to move your docs onto it. Choose Kelu if your docs already live on Mintlify, Docusaurus, GitBook, ReadMe or your own site and you want a cited assistant on top, in a widget, Slack, Teams, MCP and your helpdesk, without migrating.

Where Kelu focuses differently
Additive, not replacive
DocsAlot asks you to publish your content on its platform. Kelu layers on top of whatever docs platform you use today: Mintlify, Docusaurus, GitBook, ReadMe, VitePress, MkDocs, Sphinx, Next.js, WordPress, Shopify, Webflow or plain HTML. Add a script tag and keep publishing where you already do.
The assistant, not the docs host
If you like your docs platform, you don't need a new one. You need an AI layer that answers from your existing content and reaches users where they ask: widget, Slack, Teams, MCP, the form deflector and your helpdesk. That's what Kelu is.
Bots in Slack and Microsoft Teams
Native Slack and Microsoft Teams bots come with Pro, so your knowledge base answers in the channels your team and community already use. DocsAlot's site focuses on llms.txt, skill.md and hosted MCP, and doesn't describe Slack or Teams bots.
Retrieval quality with abstention
Hybrid retrieval (vector + full-text + reranking) plus an abstention gate: when your sources don't cover a question, Kelu says it doesn't know and shows no citations. Those are the pieces that make a docs assistant safe to put in front of customers.

Frequently asked questions
Should I use DocsAlot instead of my current docs platform?
Only if you're starting from scratch or want to move hosting anyway, and you want llms.txt, skill.md and hosted MCP built into the platform. If your docs already live on Mintlify, Docusaurus, GitBook, ReadMe or VitePress and you want to add an AI assistant, Kelu is additive: no migration.
Does Kelu generate llms.txt?
No. Kelu doesn't generate an llms.txt file for your docs. AI tools can reach your knowledge base through the public REST API and the per-knowledge-base MCP server instead. If your docs platform already publishes llms.txt, keep it.
Does Kelu have an MCP server?
Yes. Every knowledge base has an MCP endpoint with search + ask tools, on every plan, so Cursor, Claude Desktop, ChatGPT with MCP, Windsurf and other MCP clients can query your docs.
How does pricing compare?
Kelu starts with a free plan (100 questions a month, no credit card). Pro is $99 a month, or $79 a month billed yearly, with 1,000 questions and 5 knowledge bases. DocsAlot lists Startup at $39 a month (one public docs site with hosted MCP), Team at $99 a month (custom domain, private docs, 250 AI messages a month) and a custom Enterprise plan. It lists no free plan.
Can I use both: DocsAlot for docs hosting and Kelu for the assistant?
Yes. Kelu indexes any public docs URL, so it works on top of DocsAlot-hosted docs the same way it works on top of Mintlify, Docusaurus or a custom site.
