Kelu vs Notion AI
Last reviewed:
Notion AI is the assistant built into Notion. It writes, edits and answers from your Notion workspace, and on Business and Enterprise plans it can also search connected apps such as Slack, Google Drive and GitHub. It is built for the people in your workspace. Kelu indexes 24 source types (Notion is one) and answers customers and staff with citations on a widget, Slack and Teams bots, MCP, and inside your helpdesk.
Choose Notion AI if your team already works in Notion and wants an assistant that writes, searches and takes action inside the workspace and its connected apps. Choose Kelu if the same knowledge also has to answer customers — a website widget, a public MCP server, Slack and Teams bots and Support Ticket AI — with cited answers that say they don't know when your sources don't cover a question.

Where Kelu focuses differently
Knowledge isn't only in Notion
Notion AI can search a growing list of connected apps. Kelu indexes the sources a docs and support team uses — docs sites, GitHub, Confluence, Drive, OneDrive, help centers, solved tickets, community forums — alongside Notion, into one knowledge base, so answers span sources instead of being scoped to the tool where someone wrote them down.
Customer-facing surfaces
Notion AI answers the people in your workspace. Kelu ships a hosted widget for your docs or product site, a form deflector, and Slack and Teams bots for community and customer channels. Notion can be a source; Kelu is the assistant that answers from it in public.
Hybrid retrieval and abstention
Exact-match questions (error codes, SKUs, API names) need keyword search as well as meaning. Kelu combines vector and full-text search with reranking, then checks whether the sources cover the question, and says it doesn't know rather than guessing.
An MCP server your customers can use
Notion MCP connects an AI app to your own workspace. Kelu's MCP server answers from your whole knowledge base, and a public server lets your customers' tools — Cursor, Claude Desktop, ChatGPT with MCP, Windsurf — ask your docs directly.

Frequently asked questions
Should I use both — Notion AI inside Notion and Kelu everywhere else?
Often, yes. Notion AI is built into the Notion editor and workspace. Kelu indexes your Notion workspace (as one source among many) and answers on a widget, in Slack and Teams bots, in your helpdesk (Support Ticket AI), and over MCP in AI tools.
Does Kelu keep Notion permissions?
Not person by person. The Notion source indexes only the pages you share with its integration; on top of that, Kelu has its own workspace and per-knowledge-base permissions, plus restricted documents for content that shouldn't be answered publicly.
How quickly do Notion changes show up in Kelu?
The Notion source re-syncs every 5 minutes, and pages that haven't changed are skipped, so a page edit is usually answerable within minutes. Sync Now on the source page runs a sync at once.
Can I answer customer questions from Notion content?
Yes. Share only your public docs pages with the Kelu integration (or keep them in one database), add them to a customer-facing knowledge base, and embed the widget on your site. Restricted documents keep internal pages out of public answers. The Notion source is on Pro and above.
How does pricing compare?
Notion AI comes with Notion's Business plan ($20 per member per month) and Enterprise, so it scales with Notion seats; Free and Plus get a trial. Kelu is Free, Pro at $99 a month ($79 billed yearly), or custom Enterprise, and doesn't charge per reader on customer-facing widgets or bots.
